Acupunture & Functional Medicine

Dr. Carey Burger

Dr. Burger’s career reflects a lifelong dedication to integrating the wisdom of traditional healing
systems with modern biomedical science. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine, a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, and a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Dr. Burger spent more than fifteen years teaching allopathic medicine at the college level. During this time, she
educated future healthcare professionals in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and other biomedical sciences while also serving as an instructor for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, helping bridge the gap between conventional medicine and integrative healthcare.

Committed to understanding healing from a global perspective, Dr. Burger has pursued advanced studies in numerous traditional medical systems. She traveled to Kerala, India—widely regarded as the birthplace of Ayurveda—to study under a fifth-generation Ayurvedic physician. Through this intensive mentorship, she earned multiple certifications in Ayurvedic medicine, deepening her understanding of constitutional health, herbal medicine,
nutrition, detoxification, and lifestyle-based healing.
Her continuing studies have also included Chinese and Tibetan Qi Gong, therapeutic breathwork, and frequency-based healing modalities. Seeking a deeper understanding of the relationship between consciousness, vibrational medicine, and human health, Dr. Burger traveled to Nepal, where she explored traditional philosophies surrounding energy, frequency, and humanity's connection to the cosmos.

Most recently, Dr. Burger spent a year studying alongside an Emberá Indigenous shaman who was raised in the remote jungles of the Darién Gap in Panama. This unique experience provided firsthand insight into ancestral healing traditions, plant medicine, ceremony, and the spiritual dimensions of health practiced within Indigenous communities. During her time in Panama, she also volunteered with Floating Doctors in Bocas del Toro,
assisting in healthcare initiatives that served remote Indigenous populations. This work reinforced her belief that effective medicine extends beyond treating disease to honoring culture, community, and the whole person.

Today, Dr. Burger's approach to healthcare draws from decades of experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese herbal medicine, Ayurveda, Indigenous healing traditions, Qi Gong, breathwork, biomedicine, and integrative wellness. Dr. Burger's mission is to make holistic
healthcare accessible, evidence-informed, and deeply compassionate while honoring the rich healing traditions that have served humanity for thousands of years.
