Certified Professional Midwife...
Heather Lemanski, CPM
MY CREDENTIALS
I am a State Licensed Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and I have been attending births as a midwife’s assistant or apprentice since 2011, when I began my first apprenticeship. Since then, I have worked with 6 different midwives in the metro Detroit area and surrounding communities. I enjoy working alongside different midwives and my practice is a good melting pot of midwifery styles.
I am a current member of the Michigan Midwives’ Association, a certified Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and an adult / child / infant CPR provider. In April 2018 I attained my Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential from the North American Registry of Midwives.
MY STORY
I have been married to my college sweetheart, John, since 2004 and we have 4 children together! I gave birth to my first child in a “normal, induced hospital birth” in 2005. It was a “typical” American birth and while becoming a mother for the first time was joyous in itself, her birth left me feeling like I had missed out on something.
My transition to motherhood was complicated with the feelings that my birthing experience could have been different, better, special. Not something I needed to be rescued from, but something I needed to experience fully and in my own way. This led me on the path to exploring home birth.
When I gave birth to my second child at home in 2009, I felt that there was nothing I could not do!
It was during my third pregnancy in 2011 that I felt the calling to birth work and midwifery. I feel all women should have the choice to birth how, where and with whom they want. Normal labor and birth is not an emergency and does not have to be a medical event.
Heather sees patients on Thursdays in the office.
