Why Fish Oil might be my favorite supplement

Updated: Dec 7, 2025

Fish oil is my favorite supplement for most people. I am not a fan of having people take 30 supplements a day. Most of us can benefit from a multivitamin, Vitamin D (here in Michigan) and fish oil, and that will get you pretty far.

Fish oil has a whole host of benefits for our heart and cardiovascular system. It is an anti inflammatory and can benefit those with joint pain. It can also protect the liver from oxidative damage. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is skyrocketing and has strong links to blood sugar issues. Fish oil can actually help with NAFLD or even alcohol related liver damage.

The most common complaint I get about fish oil is the fish burps. Throw them in the fridge or freezer and don't worry about fish burps again!

There can be some issues with fish oil quality. We love Nordic Naturals fish oil. You can buy them in the office or online through our Fullscript account.

Nordic Naturals also makes a fish oil + CoQ10. CoQ10 is necessary for a lot of metabolic functions and protects against oxidative damage. It supports a healthy heart rhythm and blood pressure. Unfortunately, it is depleted with statin use. So, if you are using a statin, chances are you can benefit from fish oil and CoQ10.
